2018 Events

Shrove Tuesday Football at Alnwick CastleShrove Tuesday Football at Alnwick Castle

Every year on Shrove Tuesday

Commencing at 2pm on Shrove Tuesday every year, the Duke of Northumberland starts the 'game' by throwing the football from the battlements of the Alnwick Castle barbican to the waiting crowd below. The game continues downhill to the pastures and is played on the pastures and the river Aln below the castle.
Spectators are welcome - but don't get too close!

Rothbury Food and Craft FairRothbury Food and Craft Fair

7th May 2018 - Bank Holiday Monday

Local food and craft fair in Rothbury - featuring local food and recipes together with local crafts. A popular well tended event.


Pack FestPack Fest 2018

Sat 9th - Sun 10th June 2018 - Free entry

Beer & music festival at the Pack Horse Inn, Ellingham.
Locally sourced beer and local musicians playing in a festival tent - burger bar and BBQ on site as well as Thai Food station and homemade cakes. Dogs and Children are welcome. Book taxis in advance and bring cash for outside bars! Plenty of indoor room if it rains. 11am 'til 11pm - FREE ENTRY.

Friday 15th to Sunday 17th June 2018

The most Northern VW weekend festival in England.
Set overlooking the most famous location Alnwick Castle, Northumberland. Fully packed family entertainment, trade stands, Live music and 3 bars.

Rothbury Traditional Music FestivalRothbury Traditional Music Festival

Friday 13th to Sunday 15th of July 2018

This is a well-established Traditional Country Music Fair in Rothbury - featuring pipes, fiddles, bodrun, guitars, folk singing, and dialect poetry. A full weekend of fantastic folk!


Belford Arts FestivalBelford Arts Festival

Sat 28th & Sun 29th July 2018 - 10am – 4pm

52 Artists and artisans exhibiting, selling and some demonstrating in 14 venues throughout the village of Belford (GoogleMap). “Audrey” The Vintage Mobile Cinema Bus showing films local to the area. Multi – Generational Art through Memory Trail, Music, Dance, Singing and Rag Rugging workshops, Concerts and a Play. All Free.


Chillingham Wild CattleThe Chillingham Wild Cattle Open Day

Saturday 28th July 2018 - 10am - 5pm

Get up close and personal with Britain's only wild cattle herd. Experience a tractor trailer ride, with resident expert Professor Stephen Hall. Get closer than ever before to the iconic Wild Cattle and be given detailed information on the history of the cattle and the park. Chainsaw carving expert Ross McNeil will be demonstrating and selling his magnificent works of art, along with Heavy Horse Bella and her instructor doing timber extractions around the park.

Lindisfarne Festival Lindisfarne Festival

Come and watch us disturb the peace with great live music, comedy, poetry, workshops, holistic therapy, novelty acts and other festival fun in a stunning setting, overlooking Holy Island, up at Beal Farm on the mainland near the Lindisfarne Causeway.

More than 30,000 people enjoy the Alnwick Food Festiva, with free admission to top-class entertainment, cookery demonstrations by local chefs and a bustling market square offering a wide range of local produce for sale. A feast of fun for all the family. Runs alongside Alnwick Beer Festival.

Traditional Music Concerts

Andrew & Margaret will be playing Northumbrian Smallpipes and Fiddle concerts in venues along the north Northumberland coast, from Holy Island to Craster (Admission: £7.50 - under 12 free) - highly popular with visitors to the area, many of whom have never had the opportunity to see and hear the smallpipes at close quarters, nor to hear about our traditional songs, dances and legends.

Events are being held at venues throughout Northumberland, including Doxford Hall Hotel, near Alnwick and Eshott Hall Hotel, near Morpeth. The concerts involve the North Wales Opera Studio, the Northumbrian Ranters, Cambridge Prime Brass and HMS Pinafore from Scratch.
