Etal Manor Garden19th June 2016 - Mindrum House

We are very grateful to Tom and Miki Fairfax for supporting us. A “must see” magical garden which was first planted in the 1870’s and has evolved over time into a series of intimate gardens.

A wonderful combination of old-fashioned roses, hardy perennials and mature shrubs, with a wildflower garden by the river and tranquil woodland walks giving wonderful views across Bowmont Valley. There is a large hillside rock garden with water leading to a pond and a delightful stream which is host to our annual HospiceCare Duck Race. Sponsor a duck and watch the children have a great time catching the ducks.

Etal Manor Garden26th June 2016 - Whitton Grange

A classic Edwardian design of Arts and Crafts style, designed by Mauchlen, with a series of ‘rooms with constantly changing levels and views’.

John and Maggie Monaghan have spent the last fourteen years restoring and developing the garden and will be offering guided tours of their gardens. The garden, at over 400 metres is ideally suited to growing Himalayan plants. The Paeonies and meconopsis are spectacular. This is very much a plantsman’s garden with a wide range of unusual plants, including Alpines.

The garden is entirely organic with a large number of compost heaps and leaf mould piles. In addition the Whitton Willow plot will be also be open for visitors for a visit. This is the home site of the Northumberland Basketry group and demonstrates a fascinating variety of willow.
